Photojournalism

DSC_6718.JPG

Like writing and design, photography plays an important role in storytelling. One of the most important photojournalism experiences I have had was covering a local protest for Sha'Teina Grady El –– a black woman assaulted by a Washtenaw County Deputy. During this protest, I ran in front of the entire demonstration to capture the emotion of the Grady Els and their close friends. Although I was unbelievably sweaty in the early summer heat and my face mask, it was rewarding to see the end results for the article. The protests for the Grady Els continued for multiple days in addition to other Black Lives Matter demonstrations throughout Washtenaw County.
